WE Believe 2025 - Becky Shares Layla’s Story
In May 2025, Becky took the stage at We Believe to share her daughter Layla’s story, a powerful message born from love, loss, and the hope of saving lives.
Speaking to hundreds of students, educators, and community members, she reminded everyone of the impact of their choices and the importance of making it home safely.
Through Love for Layla, Becky turned unimaginable grief into a mission to inspire.
Through heartfelt storytelling and real-life impact, Becky shares Layla’s story to help students understand how one choice can change everything. The Love for Layla presentation encourages teens to make safe, responsible decisions, especially around driving, peer pressure, and making choices, with the reminder that “Someone who loves you is waiting for you.” It’s an emotional, empowering message that stays with students long after the assembly ends.
Becky shares her daughter Layla’s story to reach teens facing tough choices, risky situations, or peer pressure. Through raw honesty and real-life lessons, she helps youth see the consequences of their decisions and the value of their own lives. Her message, “Make it Home : Someone who loves you is waiting for you” gives hope, encourages self-worth, and empowers young people to make safer choices, even when life feels hard.
In the aftermath, as I navigate my grieving journey, I created the Love for Layla campaign with a simple but urgent message for young people:
“Make it Home. Someone who loves you is waiting for you. You are loved.”
I now share Layla’s story with students to remind them that their choices matter. My presentation is deeply personal, but it is also a reality that we could all face.
While speaking with students, we focus on:
· Layla and her life – the bright, fierce spirit she was.
· How Layla lost her life– the choices that led to a preventable tragedy.
· How our lives have been impacted– the lasting effect on family, friends, and community.
· The Love for Layla campaign– how students can help spread this life-saving message.
· The reality of peer pressure– and how to find the courage to say no, and to stand up for your friends. Reflections such as:
o Have you ever been in a situation where you didn’t feel safe but stayed silent?
o What could you do differently next time?
o Who would be impacted if you didn’t make it home?
· The dangers of impaired and reckless driving.
· The impact of choices– how even small decisions can mean the difference between life and death.
I have started and a Make it Home: presentation kit so this message can reach students in a structured and meaningful way.
The kit includes:
· A presentation as mentioned above which includes a pledge banner that can be in the displayed in the school for students to reflect on choices and peer pressure.
· Flyers to promote the campaign within your school.
· Car Decals When you see this logo let it remind you to make the right choice – Make it home because someone who loves you is waiting for you. YOU ARE LOVED.
· Teen Driving Responsibility Contract- A written commitment between teens and their parents that sets clear expectations for safe driving.
· Presentation length can vary from 30 mins up to 45 mins depending on the student interactions and can be tailored to your schedule.
· No cost to schools or organizations. This is not for profit, although donations can be made to the campaign.
